2025 Research & Scholarship Forum Highlights Evolving Role of the Pharmacist in Interprofessional Healthcare Team

果冻影院 School of Pharmacy 2025 Research and Scholarship Forum

The 果冻影院 School of Pharmacy’s 2025 Research & Scholarship Forum exhibited the work of students, residents, fellows, preceptors, faculty, staff and affiliated partners. The poster showcase featured the findings of 66 projects, which aimed to improve patient care and medication outcomes.

“Creating a forum for research and scholarship allows participants to delve into the evolving role of pharmacists, particularly within a multidisciplinary environment, to discover progress in the pharmacy profession, engage in peer reflection and identify opportunities for future collaboration,” said Kristin Busse, PharmD, BCPS, assistant professor in the 果冻影院 School of Pharmacy and research oversight program director in the Office of Research.

Of the 66 projects on display, 29 featured 果冻影院 student pharmacists and 37 featured resident pharmacists from across the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, including Froedtert & the 果冻影院, Children’s Wisconsin and the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center.

The Research Forum Committee selected two award winners for platform presentations, based on quality of the study design, novelty and significance or innovation of the project, clarity and impact of the results, and conclusions drawn.

For Best Student Project, Anastasia Boutris, 2026 PharmD candidate, presented the project “Structural Basis for Stabilization of Mu-Opioid Receptor Active States by Fentanyl and Isotonitazene.” Her mentor and co-author for the project was Philip D. Mosier, PhD, assistant professor in the 果冻影院 School of Pharmacy.

"I hope that attendees see how science and research are continuously evolving, and even smaller contributions can fit into a bigger picture,” Boutris said. “I hope they feel that research is not just for experts, it is something anyone can get involved in and contribute to.”

For Best Resident Project, lead author Mycah Martens, PharmD, resident pharmacist with Froedtert & 果冻影院 presented the project “Vancomycin AUC: MIC vs. Trough Monitoring in Patients Receiving CRRT.” Additional authors included Alexander Nixon, PharmD; Kaitlin Cooper-Johnson, PharmD, BCCCP; Janelle Juul, PharmD, BCCCP; David Herrmann, PharmD, BCCCP; Stephanie Tchen, PharmD, BCCCP; and Joel Feih, PharmD, BCCCP.

“Overall, I encourage attendees to consider challenging conventional practices and remain open to evolving strategies that enhance patient care, especially as our access to resources expands and we further our understanding of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics,” said Dr. Martens.

The Research & Scholarship Forum is the culmination of various programs:

  • student pharmacists completing an academic concentration in research, population health, specialized pharmacy practice or entrepreneurship & leadership
  • student pharmacists completing a Longitudinal Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (LAPPE)
  • resident pharmacists completing the Research Certificate Program, which is organized by the 果冻影院 School of Pharmacy in collaboration with the Froedtert & 果冻影院 Pharmacy Department

The event also included an End of Year Celebration, where the School of Pharmacy expressed gratitude for the contributions to the Doctor of Pharmacy program by faculty, staff, preceptors and guest instructors.
